About UL Standards

UL is an accredited standards developer in the US and Canada with more than a century's experience.

UL combines extensive safety research, and scientific expertise in the establishment of standards that include products, systems,  services, and sustainability.

INOX has recently passed two key UL Standards for our PD97PT electrified mortise lock for sliding doors with built-in power transfer and our PD97ES version that adds monitoring switches.

UL 294

Access Control Systems

UL 294 is a standard for smartlocks, and the standards include construction (installation), performance, and operation. Per UL, "These requirements apply to computer equipment that, when used in conjunction with the main control unit, is necessary to support the operation ... of the access control system."

This listing evaluates the safety of the system and ensures that the products will operate reliably without creating a hazardous condition.

The standard covers a variety of levels for product testing, with variations in the requirements for destructive attack, line security, endurance, and standby power.

UL 294 Level 1 signifies that the product is safe for egress purposes, the main concern of the model codes.

UL 1034

Burglary-Resistant Electric Locking Mechanisms

UL 1034 is a standard for electromagnetic locks, electric deadbolts, electric door strikes, and electrically-operated door locking mechanisms. They are not smartlocks, but can be used in conjunction with an access control system to lock or unlock the mechanism.

UL 1034 standards are rated based on three elements:

  • Static Strength
  • Dynamic Strength
  • Endurance
